Kathmandu, July 25, 2018: Many schools in Saptari, including district headquarters Rajbiraj, are yet to publish their academic calendar even though it’s been months since the new academic session stared.
RP Society Chair Dev Kumar Yadav said, “Of the total 18 local bodies, only Surunga and Khadak municipalities and Bishnupur, Tirahut, Agnisair Krishnasabaran and Tilathi Koiladi rural municipalities have managed to prepare their academic calendar so far”. This has also created confusion regarding dates of exams, holidays, etc. in schools.
There are a total of 412 schools in Saptari, including 42 in Rajbiraj Municipality.
“Prior to local levels assuming authority, schools in the district, in coordination with the District Education Office, used to conduct exams and grant holidays. The dates of exams and holidays would be the same for all schools in the entire district then, but the situation is no longer so in the absence of an academic calendar,” said Khilanath Gautam, Principal of Narendra Memorial Janata Secondary School,
In addition, chiefs of local bodies admitted that the academic calendar was long overdue. Rajbiraj Municipality Mayor Shambhu Prasad Yadav said “It’s true that there has been a delay in preparing the academic calendar due to our busy schedule at the end of the fiscal.
