Kathmandu, May 1, 2018: All the doctors who have worked in the rural areas for two years will now be offered scholarship for Masters’ Degree in Medicine and Surgery. Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine took a decision to this effect after two-day- long talks with the Ministry of Health and medical doctors.
Earlier, doctors had staged protest in front of the Ministry of Health saying that IOM provided scholarship to other categorized doctors although there were 150 government medical doctors in the competition and warned to halt medical services in rural areas where they were serving.
The government used to provide scholarship to the doctors working at Army and Police hospitals only before this .
“If we are not provided the first priority for scholarship, we are not going to work in rural areas,” said Dr Nabin Kumar Sinjali, who is working in Primary Health Centre, Gimdi of Ramechhap for last two years. He also added that the doctors went to the rural areas and worked as the Health Ministry had promised to provide scholarship for post-graduate studies.
