ROOT NEPAL’S National Physics Olympiad: Giving a platform for enthusiastic high school students

Kathmandu, February 8, 2018: The science circle of ROOT NEPAL in collaboration with recent International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) winners organized ‘National E=mc2 Physics Olympiad’ on February 5, 2018 at three different venues, Liverpool International College, New Baneshwor, St.Xavier’s College, Maitighar and Capital College and Research Centre (CCRC), Balkumari.

The event was organized with an aim to raise the capacity of students to solve problems of physics and to emphasize practical application of physics in daily life. Its prominent goal was to increase the enthusiasm among the students to pursue physics in the future and nurture them to compete with global and national Olympiad participants.

As many as 150 enthusiastic students participated in the event. Liverpool International College, St.Xavier’s College, CCRC, Kathmandu Model College, Caspian Valley College, DAV, Trinity College, Golden Gate International College, St.Lawrence College, V.S Niketan College, British College, TEXAS International College were among the participating colleges.

In the Olympiad, the participants were given questions to solve which are interrelated to daily life and the real world. Top 20 outstanding performers from various colleges will be selected. They will be provided with training session by the winners of International Physics Olympiad (IPhO).

Many participants felt that a trend was broken down as the previous Olympiads focused only on well reputed high schools and a very well facilitated group of students. But, Root Nepal established a new culture of organizing Olympiads in various high schools.

ROOT NEPAL is a non-profitable social enterprise consisting of young aspiring leaders working to promote quality education as a pilot project. ROOT Nepal aspires to revamp the education system by working on the goal number 4 of UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.  The vibrant group consists of not only Science Circle but also other circles which are running as pilot projects in different high schools. In the coming days too, Root NEPAL aims to build a strong foundation to grow future leaders in different areas of life.
