Nepal Government restricts universities to affiliate private colleges until further notice

Kathmandu, August 3, 2018: Nepal government notified the universities to stop providing affiliation to the private colleges in future. The amendments will be done on the different criteria and requirements and next notice will be published shortly after the process is completed.

On the very first meeting of High-level National Education Commission, Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, Minister for Education said that this notice will be further discussed in the Cabinet. The government will take the final decision on this as per the suggestions of the high-level commission that has already been formed and projection of the human resources has started. He added that the high commission and government will soon come up with the detailed rules and criteria that need to be followed by the private colleges. And, till then, no universities are allowed to provide affiliation to the colleges. The government also discarded the decisions to affiliate eight private colleges in the country by Academic Council of Agriculture and Forestry University at Rampur, Chitwan.

The students and teachers of AFU have been demanding on the formation of Agriculture Education Council for a high-level commission that works to monitor the education quality and discussions on new rules and policies regulations. Most of the colleges that have affiliations had not met the criteria like human resources, land area, etc.
