EIGHT SCHOOLS IN SINDHUPALCHOWK CLOSED AFTER LANDSLIDE

Chautara, Aug. 6: Eight private schools from Barhabise to Balefi, the areas affected by a huge landslide that hit Jure, Ramche VDC-5 of Sindhupalchok district the morning of August 2 have been closed for an indefinite period following large number of human casualties.

A large number of the human casualties include students and teachers of these schools, it is learnt.

According to Rishi Nepal, Secretary of the Private and Boarding Schools Organisation Nepal (PABSON) District Committee, all schools in the district were closed on Tuesday to condole the death of the people who died due to the landslide.

Nepal said 10 bodies of students of the Greenland Boarding School at Lamosanghu have been found from the landslide debris while 40 students studying at different schools are still unaccounted for. The school bus and five members of the driver’s family are also missing.

Similarly, although two bodies of the students at Kiston Boarding School, Barhabise have been retrieved, the bodies of two teachers there have not been found.

The PABSON Sindhupalchok district working committee has started a campaign to collect donation for the relief of the affected families.
