‘Eight women murdered in a month’

Kathmandu, 29 Oct 2014: Eight girls and women were murdered in a month during September 15 to October 15 across the country.

The media monitoring carried out by Sancharika Samuha Nepal has confirmed eight women’s death in the 30 days.

Similarly, 97 news related to 21 rape cases and 38 incident of human trafficking were published via different media.

Likewise, 42 reports of woman health rights violation were reported in the media in the same period.

The report shows as many as 80 cases of violence against women (VAW) were connected with the family, 38 with neighbours, 17 with state, and 35 unmentioned, and 57 miscellaneous.

During the period, five editorial, three photo captions, 54 features, 43 soft and 368 hard news were published regarding VAW. The report shows the publishers used photo sketches in 39 hard news, 16 soft news and 21 features, said media monitoring coordinator Ram Sharan Sedhain.
