EmpowHER to Promote More Women in Leadership Roles

Kathmandu, May 12, 2016: Second iteration of EmpowHER – a championship providing a platform for women in Nepal to enhance their effective leadership and interpersonal skills, is to be organized in town.

The programme, aimed at empowering women in Nepal, will create self-reliant women leaders who showcase independence, resilience, competence and decision making skills in today’s world to ultimately become great role models for other women in the community and effectively contribute to the society.

Launched in 2015 with a determination to create powerful women leaders and role models in the community, the programme seeks to enhance effective leadership skills and interpersonal skills in women via various trainings, project works and volunteer activities, provides practice based learning opportunities to implement ideas outside the classroom and create a sisterhood amongst women from various communities.

Amuda Mishra, Executive Director of Ujyaalo Foundation, the organizer of the competition explains that the objective of the programme is to provide women in Nepal a practice-based learning opportunities to implement ideas outside the classroom, create a sisterhood amongst the women from diverse communities within Nepal as well as globally. “We seek to empower young women through team projects as well as independent projects, motivating them to become self-reliant and goal oriented so as to create successful women leaders and entrepreneurs who can help uplift the status of marginalized women in Nepal,” said she.

The three month long competitive session will develop leadership, friendship, teamwork and interpersonal skills on candidates through group activity, including community relations, public speaking and through philanthropic events. Through the programme, candidates get to enrich their self-confidence to a level where they can challenge themselves to achieve their goals with diligence, grace, intellect and style.

Binita Shrestha, Charu Chhetri and Grishma Shrestha were declared the winners of EmpowHER 2015.

The application process for the competition is currently ongoing till May 15th, 2016.
