Kathmandu,25 November,2014: The Embassy of India and BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation jointly organised a musical evening titled An Evening with Pandit Jasraj, on Sunday. The event, held in the Army Officer’s Club, Sundhara, featured Hindustani classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj.

The programme was jointly inaugurated by President Ram Baran Yadav and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Shri Ranjit Rae.

The Padma Vibhusan recipient, Pandit Jasraj, was accompanied by Pandit Rattan Mohan Sharma on vocal-support, Pandita Tripti Mukherjee on harmonium and vocal support, Aditya Banerjee on tabla, and Modhumita Sabata and Anjula Sharma on tanpura.

The group, led by the maestro, performed various classical bhajans in music forms like Khayal, Bandish, Tarana, Dhrupad and Tappa.

After the concert, President Yadav presented the performers with tokens of appreciation.

Belonging to the Mewati Gharana, Pandit Jasraj is  globally renowned for the rich, sonorous timbre of his voice that is able to cover three-and-a-half octaves effortlessly.
