Here’s The Turbulent Trailer For Lifetime’s Whitney Houston Biopic

5 December,2014: Lifetime will take another stab at releasing a biopic involving a music icon gone too soon.

Buzzfeed has unveiled the premiere of the official trailer for the upcoming Whitney Houstonfilm, “Whitney,” and it looks like it’s addressing all of the pop star’s highs and lows. Within the brief clip, Whitney’s battle with drugs and her volatile relationship with Bobby Brown begin to threaten her celebrity status. The entire movie will document her turbulent life, beginning with her church upbringings in Newark, New Jersey.

Angela Bassett is at the helm of the flick and “America’s Next Top Model” alum Yaya DaCosta will revive Whitney, alongside Arlen Escarpeta as Bobby Brown.

Fortunately, Lifetime has obtained the rights to some of the singer’s biggest hits, so “Whitney” will at least sound (sort of) authentic. “Greatest Love of All,” “I’m Every Woman,” “I’m Your Baby Tonight” and “I Will Always Love You,” will each be sung by Debra Cox for the film.

Houston’s family members have already aired their grievances — like Aaliyah’s — but the network also plans to broadcast the documentary “Beyond The Headlines: Whitney Houston” — featuring commentary from her industry peers — after the biopic.

“Whitney” airs Saturday, January 17 at 8 p.m. EST, followed by “Beyond The Headlines: Whitney Houston” at 10:00 p.m. EST.
