Kathmandu, February 26, 2017: Quixote’s Cove on 25th February, Saturday organized a book discussion on ‘These Fine Lines’, a poetry anthology. In the event hosted as part of the Nepal Reads campagin, the participants shared their views and personal experiences regarding the book. Similarly, the session also saw live poetry readings by Shuvechchhya Pradhan and Archana Shrestha.

‘These Fine Lines’ is a collection of poems written by female Nepali poets. It features poems that explore their desire and struggle for freedom within the restraints of Nepali society. It is the first edition of Nepal Reads, an initiative under the US Embassy’s Book Bus to encourage a culture of reading and reflection in Nepal, especially amongst the youth. Each year, the project will feature two selected works of literature through which it seeks to engage readers in discussions and activities around the chosen works.

“Sometimes a single line of a poem can have a huge impact on the reader. Nepal Reads is trying to gather all the readers together and provide a platform to discuss and express their feelings because a single line of a poem can have 1000 of meanings, just like Archana’s poem The Museum Keeper’s Son had many opinions among readers. Nepal Reads seeks to provide direct access to poets,” said Samip Dhungel, the host for the session .

“These Fine Lines was mainly published to encourage the female poets and their voices, which are usually shadowed in Nepalese society. If we look at one’s school study curriculum, we can find very less number of female poets. So, this book was mainly to highlight female poets voice,” said Yukta Bajracharya, one of the members of the organizing committee.
