Kathmandu, 19th January,2015 : Entrepreneurs have urged the political parties to seek an alternative to the trend of imposing general strikes driven with vested interests, while arguing that it had debilitated the country in economic terms.

 

At a programme held by Media International here Monday, the businessmen stressed on ending the trend of general shutdown forever as it posed negative impact on business, tourism sector and the lives of the general public.

The entrepreneurs expressed concern over the parties’ repeated violations of the past agreements to end the trend of holding strikes.

 

Nepal Chamber of Commerce Vice Chairman Rajendra Malla drew the attention of the political parties for the urgency of resorting to an alternate means to strikes claiming it would inflict a lasting economic damage to the country.

 

Federation of Nepal Construction Entrepreneurs General Secretary Ramsharan Deuja said the strike held against the interest of economic progress of the country was an impediment in the nation’s development. He urged the parties to be more responsible and withdraw strikes.

 

LP Gas Industry Association Chairman Shiva Prasad Ghimire underlined the need to oppose strikes adding it was never in the interest of the ‘people’ who were in line of receiving a direct impact of such agitation programmes.

 

Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents (NATTA) Chairman DB Limbu spoke against the strike called by the political parties and reminded of the pledge of ridding the tourism sector of such strikes.

 

National Trade Association Joint Secretary Baikuntha Dahal warned to resorting to counteractive measures against the parties imposing general strike in the country.
