ENVOY WU:China Wishes Socio-Economic Development in Nepal

Kathmandu, August 27:  Wu Chuntai, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal said that he wants to strengthen economic and trade relation between Nepal and China in a discussion program on Nepal-China economic relation organized by Nepal Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday.

According to him, the promotion of mutual interest has transformed strong partnership in existing friendly relationship between two neighbour countries . He said that 95% tax has been exempted to Nepal in the import of 831 products and Nepali handicraft and tea products have very good market to increase export to China. He says,” Nepal is gradually doing social and economic progress.The Chinese government is committed to extend its maximum support till the end.”

According to Ambassador Wu, the Chinese Government is very positive to help Nepal for establishing a “special economic zone” at Panchkhal , kavre. For this, Nepal Government is asked to make proposal.

” The process are on the way to operate direct air flights between Beijing to Kathmandu and Shanghai to Kathmandu.For this, upgrading of Tribhuwan International Airport ,Pokhara and Bhairawa airports are necessary materialize such efforts.”, he added.

He also expressed condolence to those who lost their life in devastating landslide at Shidhupalchowk. He said work-in-progress is going on to provide food and medicine to the victims.

The president of Chamber of Commerce , Rajeshkaji Shrestha said that Nepali business communities are eager to trade with China through Kerung point as Tatopani checkpoint has been closed due to lanslide in Shidhupalchowk. The support from China is needed to reduce huge trade imbalance as Nepal’s trade deficit with China was equivalent to Rs. 711 million as to US Dollars last year.
