Event Highlights: Sixth version-ICT Meet up


    The sixth version of the annual event of Prime College and Prime IT Club was successfully inaugurated on December 12, 2019. The event comprised of various project demonstration, workshops, and seminars.

    The event commenced with the lighting of “Panas” from the hands of our honorable Chief Guest, Ms. Kalhari Kaluarachchi, the Program Manager of SAARC CISCO Networking Academy. The event was graced by a few more Delegates which included the Chairman of National Innovation Center, Dr. Mahabir Pun, the Spokesperson for Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Mr. Ishwor Man Dangol,  Spokesperson for the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport and other guests that included Mr. Mukunda Rijal, Mr. Nabin Manandhar, Mr. Kishor Panth and others.

    The Inauguration Ceremony proceeded with the welcome speech presented by Dr. Bikram Acharya, Head of IT Department and Program Coordinator from Prime College. After the welcome speech, the Chief Guest made the speech focusing on the theme of the event, “Advancing towards Smart City for Sustainable Development “. After that, Chairman of NITC, Mr. Mahabir Pun shared his insights and views regarding smart cities in Nepal and how the National Innovation Center is working towards achieving that goal.

    After Dr. Pun’s speech, a tri-party agreement signing ceremony was conducted between Prime College, NREN and CISCO which was signed by Mr. Kishor Panth from NREN, Ms. Kaluarachchi from CISCO and the Vice Chairman of Prime College, Mr. Kiran Kumar Shrestha.

    The ceremony was concluded by presenting the guests with a Token of Appreciation and a Vote of Thanks from Mr. Lijaa Manandhar, the president of Prime IT Club which is also the organizing team of ICT Meetup V6.0.

    Throughout the day, the sessions and workshops were booked and filled with the curious young minds registering to clear their doubts through speakers conducting various sessions. The sessions that were conducted are “Industrial Revolution in Digitization” conducted by Ms. Kalhari Kaluarachchi, “Introduction to Cyber Security for Safe Community” conducted by, Mr. Ashoke Baddage, the Director of Cryptogen Pvt. Ltd., “Blockchain 101” conducted by Mr. Bibek Khadka from eSatya, and a session on “Career Possibilities for Women in IT” conducted by Ms. Pratikshya Pandey from Women in STEM Nepal.     Alongside the sessions were workshops on “Artificial Intelligence” conducted by trainers from Mpercept Academy, “Internet of Things(IoT)” conducted by ICT4D Nepal, and on “Hands-on with Spark AR” conducted by Arjan KC from (with organization’s name)

    All the sessions, as well as workshops, were concluded by presenting a Token of Appreciation for the speakers.

    In addition to that, the event also hosted participants from various other institutes for Project Demonstration. Our respected judges, Mr. Bhusan Raj Shrestha,  Mr. Prakash Man Tuladhar, Dr. Puja Lama, and Mr. Unam Pradhan visited the project stalls and the participants briefed about their project and its influence to make a city smart. Participants from different colleges were involved in the competition. Some of the projects included:

    • “We Can”, a garbage collection system
    • “En-Sat”, an environmental satellite
    • “Prashashan E”, that provides intercommunication between government bodies
    • “MeroGadi”, a public vehicle tracking system
    • “Meekha”, an improvement to the traditional CCTV system
    • “Treasure Nepal”, an interactive treasure hunt game
    • “Role of IT in health prospects”, that strives to solve common disease problems in our country’s rural areas
    • “Survey Application”, an interactive survey app designed to help farmers
    • “Nepali OCR” which converts written Nepali text into Nepali characters

    Overall, the event was a great accomplishment with very positive reviews from our guests, our speakers, as well as our session and workshop participants. They were very excited to be present during the event and parted with good terms.
