Kathmandu, January 18, 2018: On 17 January, 532 underprivileged and Dalit students from 41 secondary school of Jajarkot have been facilitated with solar lights.

According to the Government of Nepal’s education plan ‘Sikshya ko Lagi Ujyalo Nepal’, these students have been provided with the solar lights to help them study efficiently during the night time.

Man Bahadur Giri, the District Education Officer, indicated that the solar companies themselves visited the schools to provide the solar lights. “261 students from Manyadhunga Secondary School of Kuse municipality were counted as the highest number of recipients of the solar lights while 6 students from Tribhuvan Secondary School of Khalanga were the least among the solar lights recipients.”, he mentioned.

Prabesh RC, the vice principal of Tribhuvan Secondary school asserted,” 2 bulbs of solar lights with 10Watt power was distributed to the students. This will prove to be a conducive plan for the betterment of our student’s future.”

Last year, the government of Nepal had called in applications from the underprivileged students in order to facilitate the students with electricity and financial aid in their education. These schools from Jajarkot had filed in their applications for the plan.

Sunita Bista, a student of Tribhuvan Secondary School, shared that after the advent of solar lights she has developed a desire to study more than before. She said, “Previously, we had no electricity in our home. But now, I feel very happy that the solar lights will help me to study properly.” The recipients of the solar lights were elated and humbled to have gotten a new opportunity to study efficiently.
