Paudel wins Barbara Adams Journo Award for 2017

Kathmandu, April 19,2018: On the auspicious occasion of Democracy Day and birthday of the late Barbara Adams, the Barbara Adams Foundation is organizing a ceremony to award Dilip Paudel of Nagarik Daily, recipient of 2017 Barbara Adams Investigative Journalism Award on April 24, 2018 where Rt. Hon. Dr. Ram Baran Yadav will hand over the award of Rs 1,00,001 to the winner.

A meeting of the Judge Committee, held on 16th April, 2018 picked Paudel as the winner. Paudel’s report on series of corruptions and irregularities by the leadership of Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) was the winning report among the  top ten shortlisted reports. According to the Foundation, the core criteria used by selection committee to pick the winner were the issues raised by the reports, depth of their investigations, and scale and reach of the impact they made in 2017.

The first recipient of the award in 2014 was Surendra Poudel, correspondent of the Nagarik Daily where as Krishna Gyawali, correspondent of Kantipur Daily was winner of the Award’s second edition in 2016.

Following the Award ceremony, the foundation is also organizing the 3rd episode of the Barbara Adams Talk Series on the title “Conservation of Chure: Why is it essential? How is it possible?”where Rt. Hon. Dr. Ram Baran Yadav, Former President of Nepal will be the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker including Mr. Rameshore Khanal, Former Chairman, President Chure-Terai Madhesh Conservation Development Board and Dr. Bishwonath Oli, Secretary, Ministry of Forests and Environment as panelists.

Barbara Adams a journalist and writer, born in New York City in 1931, founded Barbara Foundation in 2010. She instituted the Barbara Adams Investigative Journalism Award on May 16, 2013 to encourage and promote investigative journalism in the Nepali society, creating and enabling working environment, an independent mechanism for journalists
