Kathmandu, August 10, 2018: A 19 year old, Aanchal Adhikari believes that the youth are behind country’s back and unless the youth of the country becomes actively engaged in betterment of the nation, the country will not prosper.

Aanchal is currently in a gap year and willing to pursue B.A.L.L.B. She is a dedicated social worker who is involved in social activism since her early childhood. She was only 16 when she formed a group of 225 youths from her locality and organized an awareness program, cleanliness program, health checkup and donation program. She is U.S. Embassy Youth Council (USYC) member for 2017/18. Also, she is a recipient of American Embassy CEP (Civic Engagement Project) grant working on a project to “Strengthening Democracy through Agripreneurship”.

Starting of her journey

Asking her on how she started her journey, she said, “From my school days I was a active kid who wanted to experience everything. So being a Secretary in the Chandbagh School’s Social Service Club, we organized various events where I was given a chance to visit many places and meet many new people. Since then, I always had interest in social work and raising voice, participating in various programs and serving people.”

Making a difference

On asking about the role she is playing to make a difference in the society, she smartly said, “The role I’m playing is I’m raising my voice. Without raising awareness, people won’t take a step towards change. Everyone needs someone or the other to make them realize that they have that capability to change something.”

She shared that the most memorable moment of her life while working is giving her first motivational speech in one of the community school of GolDhunga about mental health and personality development as it depicted the start of her journey. “I was sharing my experience and was engaging with students”, she shared.

A step towards teen hero

To her, to be in the Glocal’s 20under20 of Wai Wai Glocal Teen Hero 2018 was her biggest goal. She said, “I was following Glocal Teen Hero since 2017 and it has been my goal to be one of the Glocal’s 20 under 20 as it gives you motivation to even work harder. It also influences other teenagers and recognizes your work. So, I worked hard and followed my dream and passion.”

A strong lady knows she has strength enough for the journey, but a woman of strength knows it is in the journey where she will become strong. She clearly believes that she is driven by positive attitude. She is full of life and has a great vision for her future. She is a kind of girl who is living her dreams and she believes that if we do what we really desire, happiness would follow us. Her role was definitely encouraging youths in rural areas to follow their passion and live their dreams, particularly because she loves to engage, motivate and inspire.
