Basanta Panchami being observed throughout the country

Kathmandu, January 22, 2018: Shreepanchami, also known as Basanta Panchami or Saraswati Puja, is being celebrated throughout the country today. People take this day to worship Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, learning, music, culture and art with more diligence and respect.

Saraswati Puja is celebrated every year on Magh Sukla Panchami. Mostly Hindu people celebrate this Festival.

This is the day for many Nepali Kids start writing their first letter and alphabets.  Children are taken to Saraswati temple and asked to read and write the first letter of their life. This is the important day for students and new learners. Some of the schools provide free admission to the students on this special day. Students worship the goddess by offering sweets, garlands and tika. Books, pens, notebooks, instruments and other tools of learning are also worshiped. Schools and colleges have a special celebration of Saraswati Puja. Students show their personal talents and have fun.

Basanta Panchami is considered the very special day to start something new in life. In order to make a commitment to good causes and start something new in human life, this festival is considered as the best day.
