Kathmandu, February 16, 2018: ‘Bhawisya 2074’, first interschool science competition, held at the Army Physical Training and Sports Center, Lagankhel on February 14, 2018 has been named Nepal’s first school-level STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).

The program was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology in collaboration with organizations such as Robotics  Association of Nepal, Karkhana, Nepal Academy of Science and Technology, Bee creative and Nepal Innovation Lab. The event witnessed 180 teams participate from over 110 schools of the country.

The participants had to build a model that focused on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. The organizers shared, “ The event was named Bhawisya, as the name clearly depicts middle-school students imagining a better future empowered by concepts of STEAM.”

The students participating in the STEAM challenge at Bhawaisya worked in their teams with support from their superintendents and volunteers when building their frameworks. The organizing committee mentioned that “ We believe that this will allow them to understand that learning comes from going beyond one’s comfort zone. The main goal is to encourage learning and growth rather than a culture of competition.”

This event ignited teamwork as a benchmark. Through such teamwork, technical thinking and problem-solving skills in middle school students have been promoted. The event also saw over 40 jury members from various sectors. The jury comprised of scientists, social science experts, teachers, entrepreneurs, education innovators, engineers, and art educators.
