The platform seeks to serve as a gateway to higher education in Nepal & Abroad
Kathmandu, March 25, 2017: Bikas Udhyami, a newly established social innovation hub on Friday launched ‘Padhna Jane’, a free online education portal serving as a gateway for young Nepalis to access higher education opportunities in Nepal and abroad.
The platform aims to help students to easily find Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions, colleges, universities and scholarships in Nepal, Australia, Japan and the USA. It also provides information and tips on the application process, migration requirements and living abroad. The platform also provides access to advanced search engines, drawing from a database of more than 400 TVET schools, 1000 colleges, 400 universities, and 1,600 funding opportunities allow users to filter information based on types of degree, subject, location, funding amounts, eligibility criteria and deadlines. The platform also features a match-making function that allows users to find “best-fit” universities suited to their individual academic and financial needs.
Moreover, using the platform, students can create a user account and save favorite institutions, scholarships and other information. Similarly, an integrated calendar and planner sends email notifications to remind about personalized deadlines. Tips on how to write personal statements, resumes, etc. help applicants to create a strong portfolio. Country-specific information prepares applicants for student life whereas behavioral health information promotes their safety and well-being. An interactive discussion forum available on the platform allows students to ask questions to Nepali students in Nepal and abroad and browse through existing discussions to get first-hand information from experienced students.
Padhna Jane aims to connect young Nepali with diverse higher education opportunities and provide them with accurate, up to date information so that they can make informed choices about what subject and where to study as well as how to find the resources to finance their education. The platform facilitates the ease of applying for higher-education and scholarships in Nepal and abroad. “In the near future, the platform will be expanded with additional countries and features including a scholarship fund for young Nepali from disadvantaged backgrounds to study in Nepal,” said a press release issued by Bikash Udhyami.
The platform was developed by Bikas Udhyami together with Tech Kunja, a young IT startup company.
