Kathmandu, October 29, 2017: In the lead up to Nepal’s federal and provincial elections, Women LEAD Nepal is organizing the Young Women’s Political Leadership Institute (YWPLI).

The eight-months-long program is designed to introduce young women interested in public service to the power of political leadership through trainings, workshops, and direct involvement in Nepal’s democratic processes.

During the program, a total of 30 YWPLI Fellows from in and around the Kathmandu Valley will receive hands-on trainings on various topics, volunteer with a candidate of their choice during the federal and provincial election, and then receive guidance and support to complete their own project on political activism around a topic of their choice.

Nepal’s future will only improve if and when women and girls have a seat at the table. While women have recently held three of the highest political positions in Nepal, their participation at other levels of government remains low.
