‘Dalit Youth Conference’ starts in Kathmandu to enhance capacity of Dalit youths

Kathmandu, November 8, 2017: ‘Dalit Youth Conference’ has started in Kathmandu today with the theme of ‘Role of youth in the elimination of caste-based discrimination and untouchability in Nepal’.

The two-days-long event will discuss on various topics like ‘Role of youth politicians to end caste-based discrimination‘, ‘Social movements and Dalit right’, ‘Dalit youth in the implementation of constitutional rights and laws’ and ‘ the role of mass media in achieving Dalit rights’, among others.

As many as 100 Dalit youths from across the country are taking part in the event organised by the Dalit Youth Alliance.

Inaugurating the conference, Minister for Commerce Min Bahadur Bishwakarma urged Dalit youths to advocate for the effective enforcement of the constitution to achieve and exercise their rights. “Economic, social and cultural issues of Dalits and social discriminations against them should be addressed side by side,” he said.

The conference seeks to enhance the capacity of Dalit youths, said Alliance president Chet Narayan Rasaili.

The conference will conclude issuing the Kathmandu Declaration.
