Ratnanagar (Chitwan), Dec 28: The Odra Tharu Women’s Group has bagged the first prize in the pageantry competition held under the pageantry category of the Elephant festival underway in Sauraha of Chtiwan.
Likewise, Indreni Women’s Group, Narakatiya came second while Chaudhary Women’s Society Sutalana came third. The first, second and third received a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000 respectively, according to Sub-coordinator of the Pageantry Management Committee Srilal Pariyar.
Sahayogi Women’s Group, Janakpur, Saheli Women’s Group Basauli, Tharu Damphu Dance Troupe received a consolation prize of Rs. 2,000 each.
The prizes were sponsored by Hotel Landmark, Bluesky Tours, Park Side Hotel among others.
Meanwhile, the second round of the Elephant race and football among the elephant calf are taking place under the festival today.
Also taking place today is Elephant beauty contest, Horse-cart race and Bull-cart race, according to Coordinator of the Organizing Committee Suman Ghimire.
Twelve elephants have been selected for the second round of the race while a picnic of the elephants concluded.
The festival that has been able to draw a large number of tourists to Sauraha will continue until December 30.
