I have learned more than I had expected from EmpowHER program. EmpowHER is the best thing that has happened to me. I found sisters, and a whole family. Ujyalo Foundation has become my second home. – Prarthana Saakha

Kathmandu, August 16, 2017: Coming to the end of EmpowHER 2017, the 15th session was conducted at Ujyalo Foundation premises on 12th August, 2017 as the last indoor session. The 18-weeks-long girls’ leadership program is now at its closing doors after successful transformation of 16 young changemakers, grooming them into a professional youth leader in their respective fields of interest.

The session started with pitching from all cohort members. Everyone received constructive feedbacks about timing, body-language, tone, and content. Pitching session was followed by a panel discussion on ‘Leadership and Present Condition of Nepalese Women’ led by Ms. Narayani Gaha along with Ms. Shiwani Neupane, Mrs. Susan Rijal, and Mrs. Gaura Nepali as panelists.

“Irrespective of the hurdles on the way, being determined and going for what we think is right can actually help us explore who we are and recognize our capabilities,” shared these gigantic women in the session. Inspiring the young changemakers, three panelists shared some personal stories as well.

Later in the afternoon, a mock interview session was organized. Cohort members were called for interview regarding the project and their experience. Sideways, a poster making session was also being conducted.

Towards the end of the day, a gratitude exchange program was conducted where Meta cards with the name of each member were circled and everyone had to write about her. Final closing of the session was done by Ms. Yajaswi Rai, Program Coordinator of EmpowHER.

Coming to an end, EmpowHER journey for all cohort members has been a steep upward learning curve. As a cohort member, I personally found EmpowHER a wonderful platform to learn, transform and lead. I see women not as a marginalized group but as a strong and important member of the society. We can, on an individual level, be the agent of change we want to bring. This is my major learning from EmpowHER 2017.
