Kathmandu, February 26, 2017: Word Warriors, Nepal’s first spoken word poetry group, and Quixote’s Cove Bookshop, are together hosting an event called ‘March of the poets’ this March 6th at the International Club, Sanepa.

Sarah Kay who is a New York-based spoken word poet, Amazon Bestseller in American Poetry and founder of Project VOICE will be visiting Nepal for the fourth time, whereas Phil Kaye who is the co-director of Project Voice, head coordinator of Space in Prisons for the Arts and Creative Expression (SPACE), and also the two-time recipient of the National College Poetry Slam award for “Pushing the Art Forward” will also be joining the event.

Phil Kaye and Sarah Kay along with Word Warriors will give the Nepali audience a chance to experience the magic of spoken word poetry which is a word based performance. It is an oral art that focuses on the aesthetics of wordplay and intonation and voice inflection.

“The main objective of the event is to make people aware of the art of spoken word poetry. Word Warriors Nepal has been conducting various spoken word poetry events every other month since the last 8 years. Having internationally acclaimed poets like Phil Kaye and Sarah Kay perform in our country serves as a bonus acceleration platform for the movement as a whole. It spreads the word around that the art of spoken word poetry not only has a therapeutic quality to it but it also serves to break boundaries of socio-cultural barriers,” says Biplav Shrestha, one of the organizing committee member.

The audiences will also get to enjoy the musical performances by Project Sarangi and ZeroMile.
