Kathmandu, March 15, 2018: YUWA Nepal in collaboration with Social Enterprise Network (SEN), Merry Year Social Company (MYSC) and Um Hong Gil Human Foundation have initiated a project ‘Hana Power on Impact x Nepal.’

Funded by Hana Financial Group, the project is designed to find out the root cause of pressing social problems in Nepalese communities and schools through design thinking approach. It is also focused on resolving Sustainable Development Goals including education, health, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) issues during menstruation, and school toilet advancement in Nepal.

As a part of the project, the team distributed MITINI KITs which included an emergency blanket, hand sanitizer, and postcards to more than a hundred women and girls on International Women’s day. The project team has also been implementing a toilet advancement project at Shree Azad Secondary School, Panchkahl 12, Baluwa, Kavre to raise awareness on sanitation and strengthen the ownership among teachers and students. The team has also created ‘Craft Club Kit’ which provides tools and clear action guidelines to deliver a quality class and facilitate club activities for students. In addition, the wall painting project titled ‘My Dream World’ was implemented with students decorating the toilet wall and filling it with their messages and drawings.

Since November 2017, the team has been conducting series of workshops and interviews with local people of Khokana in Lalitpur District to strongly engage them to find unmet needs of the community and create solutions. Based on the local priority, the project is particularly focusing on capacity building for women and youth empowerment in the community by selecting and funding good solutions driven by local people. These solutions were all designed and created based on local needs and knowledge.

According to the project team, South Korea and Nepal teams will continue this partnership to advance solutions by adopting local feedback, which enhances the quality of life of Nepalese people and sustain its social impact in Nepal.
