Kathmandu, August 18, 2018: The winners of ICT Award 2017 have been feted amidst a special award ceremony organized in Kathmandu on August 17, Thursday. This is the second iteration of the award hosted by IC Tech Media to motivate the new ones in the IT field and honor the people who have already made significant contributions in the industry.

Basobaas Nepal Pvt. Ltd, Paaila Technology Pvt. Ltd, and Zeftware Solutions Pvt. Ltd received the ICT Startup Award for the year. Meanwhile, Everest Cast, Nepal VR and Pari Robot won the ICT Innovative Product Award.

Information and Communication Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet, also the chief guest of the ceremony, handed over the award to the winners.

Likewise, Suresh Kumar Regmi was felicitated with ICT Pioneer Award 2017 for his contributions to ICT sector that dates back to the 90’s when the term IT was not even fancy. Regmi is the Managing Director of Professional Computer System Pvt. Ltd., a software development company with excellence in financial accounting and tax system.

Meanwhile, the Best Diaspora ICT Award 2017 was provided to Mr. Kiran Bhakta Joshi, who has become a synonymous name for Hollywood and animation here in Nepal. With His experience in CGI and Animation, he is one towering figure for ICT in Nepal and beyond. He is the founder and CEO of Incessant Rain Animation Studios.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Minister Basnet shared that proper and effective adoption of ICT in our work can contribute a lot in the GDP growth of the nation. He further mentioned that the country is not being able to utilize the national talents of the sector, and pointed out the growing culture of brain drain, and stressed on the necessity to develop an environment in Nepal so that out-flow of talents can be checked.

Similarly, Secretary of Industry Ministry, Shankar Prasad Koirala expressed hope the award will play a significant role in the development and promotion of ICT industry innovation in Nepal. He further mentioned to see an environment in Nepal where ICT is used in every sector, and all the citizens accessing the government services using ICT.
