Kathmandu, July 2, 2017: Kumari Futsal Team has won the one-day futsal tournament organized by ‘Girls Empowered by Travel’ on July 1, Saturday.
A total of 8 girls’ teams, with players as young as 11 years old, had participated the tournament.
“At a time when girls are not generally allowed to play in our society, the tournament sought to provide a platform for them to play and help come forward,” shared Radhika Shakya, coordinator of the tournament, who is also an ANFA certified referee.
As the winner, Kumari has been awarded a one-day hiking trip, which also includes an educational volunteering component, working directly with the girls and women of the community, and teaching them about the positive benefits of sports and healthy lifestyle.
Shakya further shared to Glocal Khabar that they will be organizing similar tournaments in the future, and give continuity to the mission of promoting girls’ futsal in Nepal.
