Kathmandu, July 1, 2018: Youth Thinkers’ Society Lamjung has successfully organized Lamjung Model United Nations 2018 (LMUN-2018) in Himalayan Gateway Resort, Beshisahar, Lamjung on 23rd -24th June.

The opening ceremony was formally inaugurated by Mr. Lok Raj Pandey, Chairperson District Coordination Committee Lamjung. The two days long conference proved to be a platform for youth from more than a dozen institutions across different parts of Nepal to sit together and discuss on two major global issues, “Improving Food Security to support the return, reintegration and resettlement of displaced population” and “Role of Women and Youth in Government”, the problems, causes of problems, sustainable solutions and many different controversies that come with it.

The Model United Nations is a simulation of United Nations conference, where an individual participant is assigned with a member country and committee of UN and provided with an Agenda together with a group to represent and delegate the country’s policies, status and suggest reforms for the member nations, exactly as that on United Nations. Standing out of comfort zones in a completely new format of the debate, the participants learn to hone their research, critical analysis, presentation, public speaking, diplomacy and negotiation skills. Youth Thinkers’ Society Lamjung is one of the chapters of Youth Thinkers’ Society and has been organizing Lamjung Model United Nations for the last three year. LMUN 2018 is the third annual iteration.

Along with the fruitful debate inside the committee in LMUN 2018, the delegates visited an old age home, “Sarvodaya Sewa Ashram” in Paudi, Lamjung as one of the youth engagement activities in the community where they interacted with the 13 elderly and differently abled people. Realizing the importance of youth engagement in social service as well as the citizen’s responsibility, the program was organized with the objective to connect youth with the old, energy with the experience, head with the heart.

After the conference, the participants pulled off a day long hike to Rainaskot Municipality and spent a night in the homestay. With 14 houses, a Community Center, 3 Historical Renovations and 100 residents now living in a rebuilt community, Rainaskot is one of the municipalities of Lamjung that was heavily destructed due to the earthquake back in April, 2015. After the rehabilitation and rebuilding, as the municipality started the homestay service for the national and international tourists, Lamjung MUN 2018 aimed to promote the tourism in Rainaskot that would allow the youth to directly learn about the ongoing rehabilitation and rebuilding activities taking place and how they can contribute from their part.

The event was sponsored by Rehdon School and College and OBiFert Pvt. Ltd, supported by Jamboree Education Nepal and Everest International Model United Nations 2018, with Glocal Khabar as Media Partner and Himalayan Gateway Resort as Hospitality Partner.
