‘MeriSaathi’ girls’ safety app wins Spirathon 2017

Kathmandu, November 20, 2017: MeriSaathi, a girls’ safety mobile app developed by Saloni Shikha, Spandan Pyakurel and Alina Devkota has won Spirathon 2017, a competition recently organized by Spiralogics Institute of Technology in Kathmandu.

As many as 29 young IT enthusiasts in 10 teams had participated the competition organized to provide a platform for IT enthusiasts in Nepal to showcase their talent. Each of the teams were assigned a mentor to guide them during the development of their project. Most of the mentors were senior engineers from different well-known IT companies.

Each team presented their ideas to the panel of judges that comprised Dipesh Karki (IT Consultant, Assistant Professor at KUSOM), Mona Nyachhyon (CEO of Logpoint), Ranjan Shrestha (CTO of Bhoos.com) Pravin Raj Joshi (CTO of Rooster Logics), and Saunak Ranjitkar, CTO of Spiralogics. The teams were judged on four different categories i.e. presentation, design, uniqueness and completion of the project.

The winning team, MeriSaathi was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 15,000, 100% scholarship to study a course of their choice at SIT and, an internship opportunity to work with Spiralogics International, a leading US-based software company.

Sujan Basnet, Habin Bhandari and Sangharsa Rai from the team Curious Hat bagged the first runner up position for their ‘hamroAwaaj’ project, and were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

Similarly, ‘Smile Again’ project from the team of Ranjan Bir Bajracharya, Sushant Shrestha and Raj Prasad Shrestha were declared the second runner up in the competition, and received Rs. 5000 cash prize.

Giving a concluding remark, Arun Thapa, Technical Manager of Spiralogics urged the participants to never stop learning and following their passion. He emphasized the importance of learning and that winning isn’t everything.
