Mobile telephones distributed to help farmers with information

Inaruwa, May 4, 2017: Sixty-three farmers group in Sunsari district received mobile phone in order to help them acquire information about weather and climate change.

The climate change disaster resilience project under the Ministry of Agriculture Development distributed the mobile telephones to 63 farmers group, and agriculture cooperatives and animal husbandry farmers group. The distribution was made a function held at the District Agriculture Development Office on Wednesday.

The mobile phone along with sim cards is expected to help the farmers gain access to information related to agriculture environment and climate change among others, said Director of the Agriculture Management Information System Project, Bishnu Prasad Ghimire. The project will also be sending information related to product publicity, ways to increase productivity and voice response to various queries.

Some 2,000 farmers are expected to benefit from the mobile phone distribution, helping them with their agro crops, poultry and animal husbandry, said District Agriculture Development Office Chief Rajkant Jha. The 63 groups including 38 involved in cooperatives and agriculture and 25 in animal husbandry.
