Kathmandu, November 24, 2017: Nepal has received one ‘Honorable Mention’ at the 11th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics held in Phuket, Thailand during November 12-21, 2017.

Mr. Bijaya Chandra Luitel, student at Chelsea International Academy secured an Honorable Mention for Nepal.

“Our team arrived Nepal today after an official tour of the NARIT Regional Observatory for the Public, Chacheongsao Province, Thailand. During the visit, they explored the facilities such as digital planetarium, telescopes (including 0.7-meter telescope), Astro-park, and model of Stonehenge available at the observatory premises for public outreach activities. This visit was arranged to give our students a broader perspective of our future activities while Nepal has a Meade 16-inch LX200GPS Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope at its National Observatory located at Nagarkot, Bhaktapur and there is no fixed dome digital planetarium in the country,” said Suresh Bhattarai, Chairman of Nepal Astronomical Society (NASO).

NASO has mentioned that preparation for the 5th National Astronomy Olympiad 2018 has already started and five teachers have been sent to India for the exposure camp.
