Nepal selects ‘Seto Surya’ for Oscar Award 2018

Kathmandu, August 21, 2017: The movie ‘Seto Surya’ has been selected to represent Nepal at the 2018 Oscars Awards in the best foreign language film category.

Oscar’s Nepal selection committee had selected the movie for the official representation from Nepal.

Directed by Deepak Rauniyar, the film explores the scars that remain from civil war, and strife between the supporters of the monarchy and the Maoist faction.

Seto Surya was premiered at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival, along with being screened in Toronto International Film Festival and Busan International Film Festival in Korea. It was showcased in more than two dozen festivals worldwide.

The film was premiered in Nepal as the opening film of Kathmandu International Mountain Film Festival (Kimff) 2016.

The movie was highly acclaimed by critics and had performed well in box-office.

The 90th Academy Awards ceremony that will take place on March 4, 2018, in Los Angeles, will honor the best films of 2017.
