Kathmandu,28 Nov 2014: Leaders of opposition parties and political analysts have concluded that Nepal has been successful in giving out a positive message to the international community due to its efforts and managerial skill in making the 18th SAARC Summit a success.

In response to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS)’s query regarding the recently concluded 18th SAARC Summit, leaders of the opposition parties including the UCPN (Maoist) and experts of diplomatic relations said the Summit was successfully concluded and we all–the government, political parties and the general people deserved to be commended for this.

Stating that with the conclusion of the 18th SAARC Summit, Nepal has proved itself that it was capable to organise any types of conference of international standards, they argued that Nepal once again has been successful showing its managerial skill and diplomatic confidence as it was also successful to create an environment conducive for both the Indian Prime Minister and his Pakistani counterpart to hold talks and shake hands, amidst a climate of suspicion.

Vice-Chairman of the UCPN (Maoist) and former Deputy Prime Minister, Narayankaji Shrestha, said the SAARC Summit concluded successfully.

Shrestha said, “There were different reasons behind the inability to give a momentum to the SAARC and produce results and the reasons still remain. Homework has not been done to tackle the problems. However, let’s hope for moving a step forward in a positive manner. Evaluation is another part if it is implemented in practice.”

Likewise, Chairman of the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF)-Nepal Upendra Yadav said, “SAARC Summit would only be fruitful if the commitments and the declaration issued in the summit are implemented. But it is not found implemented in practice.”

Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Democratic) General Secretary Jitendra Dev said that the 18th SAARC Summit has been successful to establish Nepal’s diplomatic adeptness in the South Asia as an environment conducive to promoting better understanding and cordiality was created for holding talks between Indian PM and the Pakistani PM at the initiatives of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.

Likewise, foreign affairs expert Hiranyalal Shrestha said the Summit was successful as the SAARC Framework Agreement for Energy Co-operation (Electricity) was signed and an opportunity was provided to India and Pakistan for holding talks.

Political analyst and lawmaker Shyam Shrestha said that the Summit would be considered completely successful if agreements regarding transport and railways were signed and it would be better if the SAARC Summit was successful in inducting China as the member of the SAARC.
