New Sajha buses to hit streets soon

Kathmandu, August 25, 2016: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City is preparing to operate 30 more advanced and disabled-friendly Sajha Yatayat buses by mid-September in the Kathmandu Valley.

Sajha Yatayat is operating the buses in collaboration with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. KMC had invested Rs 100 million to import the buses from Mumbai of India.

According to Sajha Yatayat, buses have already left Mumbai last week and are on their way to Nepal. “The new buses are expected to arrive in the capital in two weeks,” Bhusan Tuladhar, a board member of Sajha Yatayat told.

He said the buses will be operated on the existing as well as new routes. Each of the high-tech buses will have more than 40 bucket seats, wide standing spaces, CCTV and television as well. Sajha will launch e-ticketing and Sajha Yatayat location tracker apps very soon. Each buses have adequate space to accommodate two wheelchair bound persons.

“KMC will operate the new buses along routes where public mobility is high,” Gyanendra Karki, spokesperson at KMC said, adding that he hoped that the additional buses would give a huge respite to commuters.

Sajha Yatayat signed an agreement with India’s Ashok Leyland Limited for the procurement of additional buses on March 24. Currently, there are 16 Sajha buses operating on three different routes in the Valley.
