Nine books shortlisted for Madan Puraskar 2016-17

Kathmandu, July 9, 2017: The Madan Puraskar Guthi has announced the shortlist of the nine books up for the coveted literary award for the year 2016-2017.

The short-listed books for this year’s edition of the award include Chhaughar by Raj Sargam; Tapan by Sharad Poudel; Sagarmatha Ko Gahirai by Nawaraj Parajuli, and Sukraraj Shashtri ko Chasma by Rajendra Parajuli among others.

Madan Puraskar is the foremost literary honour conferred to books published in the Nepali language every calendar year. Each year the Guthi presents the illustrious award to one outstanding book along with a cash purse of Rs 200, 000. Some of Madan Puraskar’s past recipients include authors such as Satya Mohan Joshi, Gopal Prasad Rimal, Parijat, Narayan Wagle, and Jhamak Ghimire among others.

Storyteller Ram Lal Joshi had won last Madan Puraskar for his story collection “Aina”.

Along with the award, the Guthi also hands out the Jagadamba Shree Puraskar to a literary figure for their lifetime contribution in the field of Nepali literature.
