Norwegian Embassy Refutes Report In Nepal National Daily

Kathmandu, Jan 28: The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Nepal has clarified that it was focused on the embassy-supported programme, ‘capacitating and facilitating leadership amongst youth leaders across party lines’, in Nepal.

In a press release today, the embassy refuted the allegation by a national daily Nepal Samanchar Patrika on Tuesday that the programme was being run out of some vested interest.

The embassy asserted that the goal of the programme was in the best interest of the youth as it would capacitate new youth leaders to sustain the collaboration in order to create a tolerant and non-violent democratic culture.

Further clearing the air, the statement reiterated that the programme aimed to strengthen the cooperation among the political youth organization at the national and regional level without any interference in the decision-making among the participants.

Kjell Tormod Pettersen, the Norwegian Ambassador to Nepal, in the press release clarified that all programmes that are Norwegian- funded are transparent and information on such programmes are made public on the embassy’s website.

“Our door is always open to discuss projects we support,” the Norwegian envoy said.

The embassy also denied involvement or affiliation of the European Union in any way to this leadership programme as alleged by the national daily.
