Student unions withdraw 3-day educational strike after deal

Kathmandu, July 2, 2018: Private schools have vowed to continue their educational activities defying the three day strike announced by coalition of 8 student unions against the unfair hike in tuition fees in the private schools.

In response to the strike called by 8 student organizations on July 4,5 and 6 opposing the unfair hike in fees by private schools, the umbrella organizations namely Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal (PABSON) and National Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal (N-PABSON) have declared they will ignore the strike to run the classes regularly.

Supporting the private schools organization, District Administration Office advised not to halt teaching learning activities except on public holidays. The DAO has also stated that receiving education in a peaceful environment is the right of every student and thus advised educational institutions to ignore such strikes.

The soaring cost of private schools can be devastating to the students who come from less privileged households and many guardians and educationists have also been protesting the unfair raise in fees. However, the private schools organization has come forward stating they’re ready to face the consequences for the  hiked fees.
