Purification rituals held at Bouddhanath temple

Kathmandu, November 18, 2016: The Bouddhanath Area Development Committee has organised the purification rituals at the newly reconstructed Bouddhanath stupa, the world hertitage site here from today.

Consecration worship, recitation of scriptures as well as associated rites would also be held as peer the Buddhist tradition as part of the rituals. The purification rituals would continue till November 20.

The purification rituals are being performed for any act of pollution that might have occurred advertently or inadvertently at the temple in course of the reconstruction works at different portions of the temple.

The temple suffered damages to its different parts due to the earthquake that occurred on April 25, 2015 and the purification rituals are being performed with the completion of the reconstruction works.

There are four orders under the Mahayana and Vajrayana schools of Buddhism. These orders are the Nigma, Kagyu, Geluk and Shakya. The monks from these four orders performed the rituals for the purification of the temple and recited the Paritrana scriptures for peace.

Around 600 Lama priests participated in the purification rituals. A large number of devotees also attended the ceremony.

The temple reconstruction was carried out at a cost of approximately Rs 230 million. The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurated the reconstructed temple on November 22.
