A 17-years-old athlete from Pokhara, Ruby Tamang believes that extra-curricular activities are as important as academics.

She has a passion for swimming and has already made an identity for herself through swimming as the Kaski district Gold Medalist in 7th Machhapuchhre Swimming Championship-2016, organized by Nepal Swimming Association, and most importantly as the only female to compete in the 6th National level Open Water Swimming Championship-2016 held in the Fewa Lake, Pokhara.

Through swimming, she has demonstrated to the Nepalese society that age, gender, and ethnicity do not prevent a dedicated teen-Tamang-girl from competing with adult males and people from advantaged communities.

Currently, Ruby is pursuing her GCE A-Level studies at Gandaki Higher Secondary Boarding School, Pokhara.

She is currently working on to prepare herself for the national level Age-group swimming competition and 8th Open Water Swimming Championship.

Her next target is to participate in the 13th South Asian Games to be hosted by Nepal in 2019. She has become an inspiration for all aspiring athletes.

Ruby Tamang was selected among the 20 brightest young entrepreneurs, innovators and game changers below the age of 20 in Nepal, for the year 2017. This annual list is the ultimate honor roll of young game changers reshaping Nepal for the better. The platform seeks to encourage the youths to share their initiation, creativity, and enthusiasm which will then motivate them and more of the other youths in the nation to develop an entrepreneurial thinking.
