Rajbiraj Announced as a Child Marriage Free Zone

Kathmandu, December 18, 2018: Ward No. 5 of Rajbiraj Municipality in Saptari has been announced as a child marriage free zone on December 17, 2018. “The announcement was made after as many as 560 households in the ward met all the criteria qualifying the ward as a child marriage free zone”, informed Samir Jha, the Ward Chair. For a long time,  an awareness campaign against child marriage has been conducted in this ward by Save the Children, Saptari and Save the Children. 

Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives, Sailendra Prasad Sah made the announcement by reading out a banner at an event organized on the premises of Bindeswori Higher Secondary Public School, Province 2. Addressing the event, Minister Sah said that the efforts made
by ward No. 5 officials to make the ward a child marriage free area were admirable. He also added that the other wards and local levels should follow this example and learn from the ward.
