Sadiksha Thapa wins National Speaking Championship 2016

Kathmandu, November 27, 2016: Sadiksha Thapa, a student of MBA at Kathmandu University School of Management, has been felicitated for her victory in the Grand Finale of the first National Speaking Championship 2016 organized in the capital yesterday.

With this win, Thapa bagged a purse of 75 thousand rupees. Similarly, Smriti Tuladhar was awarded with the second prize of Rs. 25,000 while Malika Amatya took away the third prize, Rs. 10,000.

A panel of three-member jury team comprising of Umes Shrestha, the right-brain at Empowerment Academy(EA), Abhisekh Maskey, the left-brain at EA, and Prashanta Manandhar, Founder, The Storytellers had judged the contestants in the final round of the competition.

In the event held at Club 25 Hours in Tangal, the competitors had shared about their love, relationship and personal stories as part of the speaking session while they talked about social media and people skills as part of the presentation session.

Empowerment Academy, the communication and empowerment wing of King’s College had organized the competition to promote the culture of public speaking and presentation among the students, as these are the most essential skills one needs to have in order to survive and progress in today’s world.

The competition was held on various themes including Sustainable Development Goals, Education, Culture, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking, among others and progressed through workshop/training rounds, preliminary round (speaking), advanced round (speaking + presentation) and the championship round (speaking + presentation).

The championship was open for +2 graduates, Bachelors, and Masters levels under the age of 25. Among the 160 students who had applied for the competition from different colleges across the nation, 59 were selected to compete in the preliminary round. Again, 27 among them were eligible to reach the second round of the competition. Finally, top ten contestants fought in the final round to claim the championship.

Speaking on the occasion, Umes Shrestha shared that the championship was an effort towards making people empowered, and slowly bringing a change in the education system of our country. “Through this competition, we share this bigger picture of changing the education system of Nepal,” he added.
