Baglung, June 20, 2017: A campaign, ‘Our support to Mahabir Pun’, has been launched in Baglung with a view to raising funds for the National Innovation Center led by Mahabir Pun.
The campaign initiated by a local youth group ‘ Our Baglung, our responsibility’ was inaugurated by Center Chair Pun amidst a program here Tuesday.
On the occasion, Pun called on all Nepali to lend intellectual and economic support and time as well to the center for its promotion. “I heartily request the government and mass to realize its potentiality and significance and extend support for its promotion.”
According to Pun, such fund-raising campaign that aims to make Nepal and Nepalis prosperous, is running in foreign countries as well.
On the occasion, the Magsaysay Award winner took the opportunity to call on the government to allocate some 1-2 percent of the budget to be spent in the infrastructure development of the Center, which he hoped would help the organization meet its objectives.
Only infrastructure development was not enough to see prosperity, rather talented and creative minds aspiring to go to foreign land for jobs should be encouraged to stay back home, he asserted, claiming that the Center would contribute to creating a atmosphere to attract such minds to seek career within the country itself.
It is noted that Pun who also holds the identity of social entrepreneur and activist put his awards and prizes on sale to manage funds for the Center and such move triggered a wave at the civic level to launch fundraising campaign for it.
So far, over Rs 40 million has been collected and the government has also pledged to provide economic assistance to it.
