Teach For Nepal proved quality education can be provided to every children: Education Minister Poudel

TFN inducts 55 fellows to its alumni movement

Kathmandu, Aprili 10, 2017: Education Minister Dhani Ram Poudel has said that Teach for Nepal (TFN) proved that quality education can be provided to every children in the country. Speaking on the occasion of the Annual Event organized by TFN in Kathmandu on Sunday, minister Poudel said that TFN’s movement of today can be the movement of the country tomorrow, and the goal of Teach For Nepal and the government’s goal to achieve excellence in education are aligned. He also wished TFN all the best for its tireless efforts.

The event had welcomed 47 new cohort members to the two-year-long Fellowship programme and inducted 55 Fellows to the Teach For Nepal Alumni movement.

At the event, TFN Fellows and students led entrepreneurial activities were displayed and plays and dances were performed by 59 students from 15 different public schools in Lalitpur, Sindhupalchowk and Dhanusa.

The students were very excited to display their projects in front of more than 800 guests. “I was very delighted to display my project to the Minster of Education, Dhaniram Poudel,” said Ramsudip Ram, Grade 10 student from Sohni Mujeliya, Dhanusa. “My friends displayed their Mithala arts to the minister and we were able to learn different cultures from friends from other districts,” he further shared.

Students from Bhotenamlang, Sindhupalchowk presented their Mushroom Farming Project in the exhibition. Sangeeta Giri, an eighth grader mentioned how she felt proud to share her learning with others.

The event was opened by Shanta Nagarkoti, a student from Lele, Lalitpur, who is a recipient of United World College scholarship. She was a student of TFN Fellow and will be attending her higher education in Germany from Fall 2017. Speaking on the occasion, Co-founder and Head of Training and Support, Swastika Shrestha said, “Every child deserves quality education that Shanta received. They should all receive dedication, investment and love that a parents gives to their children.”

Keynote speaker, Dr. Upendra Mahato shared his stories of struggle, hardship and inspiration of his life with the audience. The students from Manikhel, Lalitpur performed an emotional play based on the real stories of rural communities, students from Dhanusa performed their native Jhinjhiya dance and students from Gimdi, Lalitpur recited slam poetry based on real stories of their community. On the occasion, TFN Fellows and Alumni’s also shared their learning and experience.

TFN is a movement of outstanding university graduates and young professionals who are committed to end education inequity in Nepal starting with two years of fellowship teaching in public schools. The fellowship is a highly competitive, challenging, and rewarding leadership development program, which prepares the participants to become lifelong leaders. TFN Fellows come from diverse academic background. They have completed a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Business Studies, Education, Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Public Health, Social Work, and Science & Technology from colleges and universities in Nepal and many countries abroad.
