The National Reconstruction Authority plans to bring integrated settlement for earthquake victims

Kathmandu, February 8, 2018: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has started the process to establish an integrated settlement for the earthquake victims with multi-ownership in Kathmandu.

In a meeting of the NRA held on Wednesday convened the representatives of Kathmandu and Lalitpur Metropolises for raising the residences based on house pooling system. They talked about the inefficient and inconsistent reporting of the quake-damaged houses of the valley.

Yuvaraj Bhushal, Chief  Executive Officer of NRA informed that the meeting intended to develop integrated accommodating based on house pooling system. “The meeting also formed a 5-member taskforce under the coordination of Joint Secretary at NRA, Raju Man Pradhan. It is assigned to conduct a study how the integrated settlement could be developed in the dense Kathmandu Valley, and submit a report within 15 days.”

Surya Bhakta Sangachhe, former Director of Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, has been selected for supporting the study taskforce. During the meeting, Sangachhe had also presented a working paper to demonstrate how an integrated settlement could be raised.

During the earthquake of 2015, the Kathmandu Valley observed the damages of more than 100,000 houses. Only twenty percent of such houses have been renovated so far.
