Glocal 20 Under 20
Sanjay Kumar Yadav, an 18-year-old boy from Janakpur, is continuously working for community development and believes he is unstoppable. A calm and dedicated social worker Yadav is currently serving as a ‘Young Champion’ in LIFE Nepal.
He has helped a lot of children in his community to get their birth certificates and join schools. With his active involvement in child clubs, he has convinced families in his community to send their children to schools and help in their personal growth. He has functioned suggestion boxes at schools leading Junior Champion Club in his school.
Hailing from Maithili group in Janakpur, he mentions, “I have enough bitter experience when advocating against child marriage and dowry. But I have never lost hope within me and have been working on with the hope that someday all men and women will be treated equally in my community too. I want none of the children to be oppressed and fall into trap of different kinds of violence.”
He has conducted life skill sessions from grade 5-9 focusing on life skills, sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender-based violence (GBV), girls’ empowerment issues, and so on. He also conducts community dialogues in close coordination with the GBV watch groups and conducts community seminars to promote Zero Tolerance at community level.
In the span of next 5 years, he sees himself working in the preservation of Maithili culture and inspire his community.
He is a teen who has come out to raise voice against the prevailing malpractices, superstition, dowry and inequality and dreams of a world of equality.
