Five female Journalists Team up to Conquer Mt.Everest

Kathmandu, 8 January, 2018: A team of five women journalists who intend to summit Mount Everest have convened in a meeting with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on 6 January, 2018 to propose their three demands before the climb.

A decision of financial aid from the Council of Ministers, permission for the permit of climbing the Everest as well as the restraint on the tax that amounts up to $10,000 and a stroke of luck speech from the Prime Minister was the three points of the proposal presented in the meeting.

After the meeting with Prime Minister, Sher Bahadur Deuba, the team of five women journalists, showcased a hopeful and excited enthusiasm.

An excited member of the team, Deurali Chamling, mentioned that “We got a positive response for our proposal. Deuba has assured us to help in the best way possible. He wished us good luck.” Earlier this November, President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Speaker of the Parliament Onsari Gharti Magar had met the team of this women and had ensured them to abet for the climb.

The team comprises of Rastriya Samachar Samiti’s Rosha Basnet, News 24’s Priya Laxmi Karki, Megha TV’s Kalpana Maharjan, Nepal Television’s Rojita Budhcharya and Dharan’s Deurali Chamling. Rojita is the youngest member of the team while Deurali is the eldest.

They cite their inspiration as the team of ten women who had ascended the Everest in 2008.

With a rigorous routine on a daily basis, they are trained by Furba Tenzing Sherpa, Guinness World Book record holder for summitting the Everest 12 times. Earlier in November, the team had successfully ascended 5,925 meter and 5,630-meter mountains.

In a conference held in 2016, thirteen female journalists had signed up for the ascend of Mt. Everest. But due to family limitations and unfavoring health conditions, 7 of the 13 women had to withdraw the plan.

They hope to conquer the Everest this coming May. They want to stand out as an inspiration to every Nepali woman by the ascend of Mt. Everest.
