Five star hotels not paying house and vehicle tax

Kathmandu, February 14, 2016: Vehicle and housing tax have been found to be ignored by many hotels including five-star hotels in Kathmandu Metropolis.

According to Chief of Metropolis Revenue Division Mahesh Kafley, after the Metropolis initiated action against the defaulters many of them have deposited business tax whereas many are yet to submit vehicle and housing tax.

There are hotels like Hotel Hyatt, Hotel Everest, Hotel Radisson, Hotel Shanker, Hotel Shangrila, Hotel Malla and Hotel Yak and Yeti who are among the hotels who have paid the business tax but ignored the housing tax since a long time.

Usually 1-1.2 million is the amount which a five star hotel pays in such taxes.

Hotel De l’annapurna has paid all taxes except the vehicle tax whereas only Hotel Soaltee has submitted all kinds of taxes it is liable to following the recent action initiated by the metropolis.
B.S., Kafley added, the metropolis is preparing to initiate action against the defaulter hotels as per the Local Self-governance Act, 2055.
