Kathmandu, Sept. 1: The Nepal Food Corporation is to import 3400 goats to Kathmandu targeting the Dashain festival this year. They will be imported from Surkhet, Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Makwanpur, Siraha and Parsa districts. They would be bought by the corporation’s concerned zonal office at the price determined by the team of District Agriculture Development Officer, Food Corporation Officer and farmers.
Each year, some 30,000 goats are sold during the period. With high demand, there can be monopoly in price by private sector and the import is aimed at controlling it, said Deputy General Manager of the Corporation Nawaraj Upadhyay.
