Bhimduttanagar, Oct 9: The Duhun area of remote Darchula district witnessed acute shortage of food when the rice supplied by the Nepal Food Corporation, Regional Office did not reach the destination.

Locals of more than a dozen VDCs of Duhun area have been facing food shortage since long back. People here are heavily dependent on Food Corporation for food since the area is less fertile from agro production point of view. This year the problem surfaces due to sheer negligence in timely transporting food items, said locals.

To the contrary, Chief of Corporation Regional Office Surendra Raj Bista said the food stuffs supplied had reached Sunsera Depot of Duhun area some days ahead Dashain. “I was informed that 20 sacks of rice had reached the area on September 30”, he said, adding transporting goods from Darchula headquarters with the use of donkeys is always time-taking.

He further said the contractor company is transporting goods to all three depots of Darchula. However, locals have complained that the food stuffs supplied to the local area targeting Dashain were not reached on time.

Transport of goods to destination was caused since the normal road from district headquarters Khalanga to remote areas that have been used for supplying food items was not smooth.
