Arghakhanchi, Aug. 29: More than 49 houses in Sandhikharka Municipality-9 at a Dalit settlement are at high risk of landslide.
The settlement at Bhuhunge of the Municipalityt was at the high danger of landslide after the area close to the settlement began caving this monsoon season. Peoples are having restless nights due to the dread of landslide.
Last year saw a large chunk of the ground sink during the rainy season and the same repeating this time has become a cause for concern for the locals.
We have been keeping vigil throughout the night lest it rains hard and the ground sinks, said 66-year-old Dambar Bahadur Nepali. He demanded that his family is in need of immediate evacuation.
“Most of the houses in the settlement have developed cracks and a hill where a single settlement is located has caved in,” he said.
The District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee had directed the bodies concerned to shift all the families in this locality to safer place after the land cave-in did not subside. But the VDC where the area is located has not paid any heed.
Big landslides as long as 100 to 250 metres and 20 to 30 metres wide have happened at three spots here while four more diminutive ones have occurred.
